The authors provide a history of opiod addiction treatment in the U.S. and list major research studies investigating the effectiveness of methadone maintenance treatment. Section 1 answers frequently asked questions about safety and efficacy of methadone treatment; Section 2 includes a detailed list of references; Section 3 is a number of supplemental articles; and Section 4 includes visual and suggested commentaries to compliment the answers to the questions in Section 1.
