Ways of Seeing Illness

A pamphlet produced from an article written by Carole Yawney, for the feminist publication "Women Healthsharing" (June 1981), which explores some of the different ways that health is defined, according to one's particular cultural context or society. It offers several examples of different ways of conceptualizing health and illness, and compares these examples with the western tradition of defining health and illness based on western medicine and science. Yawney suggests that culture frames our understanding of health and thus, the ways we treat disease and illness.
