Summary:
This leaflet was produced by the Vancouver Women's Health Collective (VWHC) and handed-out at a demonstration in 2004, protesting the practice of cosmetic surgeons in BC to give away cosmetic surgery as a prize in a contest. The VWHC was critical of the role of medical professionals in perpetuating a sexist, profit-driven practice. They interrogate the use of cosmetic surgery in society (to "fix" women who do not meet a pre-determined beauty standard), as well as the use of cosmetic surgery as advertising in contests like the Vancouver Extraordinary Makeover Event (2004).
