This manual, prepared by the Vancouver Women's Health Collective (VWHC), instructs volunteer of the VWHC on the procedures for the health files and the doctor directory, both informational resources available in their information centre. The manual also includes gender-based analysis of the health care industry and common expectations of the doctor/patient relationship (the power hierarchy involved as the doctor is perceived to be the expert and authority in all circumstances). This analysis accompanies instructions for using the doctor directory, which women access at the VWHC.
