This is the first newsletter of Woodwards Squat, which seeks to provide a voice for the squatters and support for the community. This issue includes a press release, entitled 'Woodwards Squatters denounce Police Threats'. It also provides a chronological history of the Woodwards building since it closure in 1993, outlining various owners of the building and the plans for redevelopment, which includes social housing, condos, SFU's School for Contemporary Arts, and co-operative housing. It also describes the decade long struggle between the Downtown Eastside community, the developers, and the government in the building's redevelopment, which heighten after the Liberal provincial government was elected in 2001.
