Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users

The document is a guide produced in collaboration with residents and organizations of the Vancouver Downtown Eastside Strathcona community to describe how these diverse groups work together and how they would like "outside" organizations to work with them in the future. The document includes: an overview of the guide; description of the Downtown Eastside Strathcona community; explanation of the principles of community-based development; particular issues of concern to the community; and specific ways the community works together.

The document is a report prepared by the Temporary Advisory Sub-Committee (TASC) on Narcotics Harm Reduction established by the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) of the B.C. Medical Association in 1996 to study problems associated with injection drug use (IDU) in British Columbia. The report outlines the terms of reference for TASC, provides an analysis of existing systems and processes in place to deal with addictions in BC, and includes recommendations designed to reduce the harm associated with IDU in B.C.

The document is a proposal produced by the Hope Village Council (HVC), a group of homeless people and people at risk of becoming homeless, to help address the problem of homelessness in Vancouver. The authors propose a tent city modeled on the Dignity Village tent city in Portland, Oregon; draw on data collected by the City of Vancouver about the capacity and efficacy of the existing shelter system to support their argument; included a rationale for how a tent city will successfully deal with homelessness issues; and conclude with a list of resolutions passed by the Hope Village Council.

The document provides a summary of the findings from 29 discussions held at 21 different locations in the Downtown Eastside/Strathcona neighbourhoods from May to September 2001. The discussions were designed to gather feedback on a number of issues related to the Alcohol and Drug Action Plan being put together by Community Directions, a collective of organizations seeking solutions to the problems of drug and alcohol abuse in the downtown eastside of Vancouver. The document includes: participant demographics; summary of discussion; summary of individual feedback forms; summary of the community's priorities and recommendations for task groups to follow-up in specific areas.
