Summary:
A report, in both English and French, on the proceedings of a two-day meeting between Correctional Service Canada (CSC) and the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA). The meeting was about how to improve collaboration between the two agencies, in the prevention and control of infectious diseases in the prison population, and in improving prisoners' access to services and treatment for diseases. This report summarizes presentations given by CPHA and CSC Health Services on current epidemiology, risk factors, service access, and gaps that need to be addressed. It also presents An Action Plan developed at the meeting. The Plan identifies key actions to be taken at the national, regional, and local levels, timelines for their completion, and the people and agencies responsible for carrying them out.
